ELEMENTS 1 Basic maintenance.

RANGE STATEMENT

  1. Inspections operational, routine, scheduled.
  2. Plant and attachments cutter body, drive shaft, loop and bike handles, gear box, deflectors, cutting tools, carrying straps.
  3. Types of deficiencies cutter body wear and damage, drive shaft wear or damage, deflector wear or damage, cutting tool imbalance or damaged, starter cord tension or wear, inadequate gear box lubrication, loop and bike handles incorrectly mounted , carrying straps incorrect location and balance of cutter.
  4. Start stop procedures operating start and stop controls, emergency stops.
  5. Approved practice safety, manufacturers, organisation.
  6. Types of defects over running, misfiring, over heating, excessive and uncharacteristic noise, inadequate performance, vibration, imbalance, inappropriate cutting tool.
  7. Designated persons operatives, chargehand, foreman, supervisor.
  8. Prescribed format job card, work slip, report sheet.

ELEMENT 1 Basic maintenance

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

a)

All appropriate tools, lubricants and safety equipment are in evidence.

b) Identification of the brush cutter make and model are made with reference to the appropriate instruction manual.
c) Nomenclature of parts and controls are accurate and are identified on the machine.
d) Body, shaft, handle and deflector are inspected for wear, damage and insecure parts and appropriate action is taken.
e) Cause and remedy of component problems are encountered are identified (e.g. spark plug, air filter etc.)
f) Cleaning of all components is carried out in a safe and correct manner.
g) The lubrication of the gearbox is administered at the appropriate time to the given quantity.
h) Adjustment of harness to individual need and balance of brushcutter is carried out to the prescribed standard.
i)

Mounting hardware for each cutting tool is identified and used in the correct sequence to attach individual cutters to the output shaft.

j) Deflector suitability for the mounted cutter is checked and appropriate action is taken if required.

ELEMENT 2 Basic working conditions

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

a)

All appropriate operative safety clothing is in evidence and is used accordingly.

b) Brushcutter pre-start checks are carried out safely in accordance with approve procedures.
c) Correct cutting tool is selected and mounted to approved manufacturers procedures.
d) Fuelling and starting procedures are carried out safely accordance with approve procedures.
e) Stop mechanism is verified as being operational.
f) The working area and ground clearance requirements are assessed for required safe cutting.
g) Correct stance is adopted to maintain minimum strain and fatigue when cutting is in operation.
h) Cutting tools are changed to meet differing conditions encountered.
i)

Re-fuelling is carried out in a safe manner.  

j) A visual inspection of the brushcutter to check standard manufacturers requirements is observed at each re-fuelling.
